Onyx
Hey Product Hunt !👋|
You've probably used AI to vibe code or for research, but it's missing the context that matters most. Your AI can't read yesterday's Slack threads, doesn't know what's in your Google Drive, and the best features are locked behind paywalls.
Today, we're launching AI that knows your world—privately and securely—with Onyx.
Onyx is your team’s entry point to all things GenAI, combining the most powerful AI features, your data, and your LLMs in an intuitive chat UI.
With Onyx, you can ask questions like:
"What do Redditors say about Cursor vs. Windsurf?"
"What were my action items this week? Prep my 1:1 notes for tomorrow"
"Read this CSV and calculate our MRR growth rate against our year-end goals"
To do this, we’ve built features like:
Deep Research with web and internal search
MCP actions
Custom agents
Permission-synced data connectors
Access through website, Chrome extension, or Slack bot
Did I mention that Onyx is open source? You can deploy Onyx locally, for free, and guarantee that your data stays within your boundaries.
To celebrate our launch, we’re offering three months free on Onyx Cloud! Message us at hello@onyx.app to claim :)
Really excited for you all to check it out and hear your thoughts! ❤️
Huge thanks to @garrytan for hunting us!

We’re always open to new contributors!!
Congrats to the Onyx team on the launch!🎉 I’m building custom research agents and deeply believe in private, team-specific knowledge work—Onyx’s flexible, local deployment really stands out. I’m curious about scaling for multi-team usage:
How does Onyx manage secure context passing and persistent memory when collaborating across projects and channels?
Is there support for fine-tuning agent behavior or workflows for different departments—like engineering vs. sales—within a single deployment?
Would love to hear how early users set up efficient “agent teams” and what’s next in terms of enterprise scalability scenarios?

@sneh_shah These are some great questions! Let me answer them for ya:
When you self host Onyx, all the data will live within your infrastructure. On top of that if you have self-hosted models, then the data will all be localized meaning it will never leave your setup.
Absolutely! We have agents that you can give custom prompts to in order to give them more of a personality. You can also group documents into document sets that are tailored to that departments set of knowledge!
We definitely have a ton of customers like Ramp who are introducing bots into their workflows to do the heavy lifting of answering questions for them! We have some items on the roadmap and more information in our documentation! https://docs.onyx.app/welcome

What are some of the top use-cases with the slack integration? also could you share more about the upcoming workflows? thanks! looks great so far! 🚀
Onyx
@sentry_co The number one use case for Slack is answering questions! E.g., you can configure the bot to answer in #eng-newhires and onboarding employees can self-serve verified, well-documented answers.
Theoretically, any Onyx action can be invoked through the Slackbot as well. For example, you could invoke MCP actions from Slack through Onyx!
The core idea of workflows is really logical, time/condition gated execution of actions & MCPs --> instead of ad hoc asking the Agent to do some common action, you can define a workflow that strictly executes some process
We've been using Onyx at our company since I saw it featured on HN, and now have several teams using it on a daily basis to cut through the fog of "where do I find this information?" Excellent tool, great support from the team, even for self-hosted version.
We've been using Onyx for a couple of months now and it's a really great project. Great product, super talented & responsive team. Really recommend it for anyone that wants to use/build a chatbot application.
