Oval is a native macOS client for your self-hosted Open WebUI. Instead of running AI in a browser tab or Electron wrapper, Oval provides a fast and private experience built specifically for macOS. It supports streaming markdown chat, voice mode with on-device Whisper STT and Piper TTS, quick access via Ctrl+Space (like Spotlight for AI), web search, citations, and tool calls. Open source (GPL-3.0), no analytics, and all traffic goes directly to your own server.

Hey PH 👋 I built Oval because I was tired of keeping a browser tab open for my self-hosted Open WebUI. The official Electron app felt heavy, so I rewrote it in native SwiftUI from scratch. The two things I'm most proud of: 1. Voice mode: on-device Whisper (Apple Neural Engine) for STT and Piper for TTS. No API calls, everything stays local. 2. Quick Chat: hit Ctrl+Space from anywhere on your Mac and a floating window drops down. Same energy as Spotlight, but it's your AI.
