PokeTokenBar turns your AI coding tokens into a Pokémon companion in your macOS menu bar. Start with an egg — spend tokens in Claude Code, Codex & Gemini CLI and it hatches a random Pokémon, evolves through its real evolution line, and graduates to your Pokédex (plus rare shinies ✨). Underneath it's a handy tracker: today's usage, official 5h & weekly limits, and a forecast for hitting them. Runs entirely on-device from your existing logs — nothing is sent anywhere. Free & open source.

Hey everyone 👋
I've been spending a lot of time with AI coding tools lately, and it always felt like a bit of a shame that all those tokens just ended up as numbers on a dashboard. I figured it'd be more fun if they actually meant something.
So I built PokeTokenBar — a macOS menu bar app that lets you raise Pokémon from your AI token usage.
You start with an egg. As you spend tokens it hatches into a random Pokémon, and the more you code, the further it evolves along its real evolution line. Once it reaches its final form, it joins your Pokédex — and every once in a while, one hatches shiny. ✨
Beyond the game side, it's also a handy AI CLI tracker. It reads your local Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI logs to show today's token usage, your current 5-hour and weekly limits, and an estimate of when you'll hit them.
Everything runs locally — it only reads log files already on your machine and never sends any data anywhere.
If there's anything you'd like to see added, I'd love to hear your ideas or feedback!
(English isn't my first language, so I used a translator for this post 🙏)

this is genuinely such a cute idea, love the egg to shiny arc. one thing though - could you add an option to pin a favorite pokemon as your menu bar icon instead of the default? would be cool to see my starter evolve right there in the bar without having to click in
