Readwise has become the go-to for capturing highlights and reliably resurfacing them, especially for people who want a retention loop across Kindle, articles, and note apps. But the alternatives landscape splits into distinct camps: Matter leans into a read-it-later queue with a polished reading (and audio) experience, Raindrop.io prioritizes cross-platform bookmarking and archival, Reflect is a daily-notes system with backlinks and meeting-centric workflows, Glasp adds a lightweight, social layer to highlighting plus daily emails, and Quotes goes Apple-native for low-friction quote capture with reminders.
In evaluating options, we looked at how well each tool handles capture and organization, what “review” or resurfacing mechanics it offers, and how easily it fits into real workflows via extensions, device support, and integrations. We also considered UX speed and simplicity versus depth, platform coverage, privacy and collaboration tradeoffs, reliability (especially for web clipping and audio), and overall value relative to pricing.
