Ropes lets you screen every engineering candidate like its an onsite. We're excited to launch a new type of coding assessment, powered by AI, that tests for what's important in a software engineer (not just test cases).

Hey ProductHunt! 👋
I'm Ken, founder of Ropes AI. Ever thought there's got to be a better way to screen software engineers? Say hello to Ropes - a groundbreaking approach to coding assessments.
All engineers, both as candidates and employers, are familiar with the pains of today’s hiring process - endless Leetcode problems, uninspired interviews, and a black hole of communication. It's time for a change.
Ropes leverages cutting-edge AI to offer a solution that benefits both employers and candidates. We let companies create real, engaging coding simulations about their business, and evaluate for "soft" skills like algorithmic knowledge and debugging skills.
Why Ropes stands out:
✅ Exclusive Scorecard Results - Uncover more than just test scores.
✅ Custom Problem Creation - Tailored challenges unique to your needs.
✅ Candidate-Centric Design - We prioritize the candidate experience.
Excited? See the difference yourself at Ropes AI. We're really looking forward to all of your feedback.

This looks really interesting! Curious if you could share a bit more about adding my own custom problem? What does that look like in practice?

@mokshjawa Thanks for the support Moksh!
We're really excited about custom problems. Right now - most companies are unable to give coding interview questions that are actually about their business. Writing custom questions by hand is mundane and slow (especially if you want to support many programming languages!).
Ropes is using AI to do this tedious process for you. You can create a custom coding problem in just 2-3 minutes using our platform - all you have to do is give a quick description (e.g. "I work on our observability team and we're trying to hire an engineer proficient in Java").
Happy to give you or anyone a demo personally, just shoot me an email - ken@ropes.ai

Looks great Ken! Curious to know more about how this is candidate centric. How does this shape up against the hackerranks of the world?

@adam_liang1 We're putting effort into doing right by candidates (and we're open to all feedback + new ideas)!
A few things we've implemented:
1. Retake option - We all make mistakes, and sometimes interviews don't go as planned. Employers on Ropes
can let candidates redo an assessment, or take the best of two submissions - to take the pressure off the process.
2. Language Support. In Ropes, its easy/automatic to extend support of a problem from one language to many, so candidates can work in their preferred language.
3. Best-in-class environment. Ropes uses VScode and a developer-first IDE so that candidates feel at home when working on the platform.
Open to suggestions on what else we can do to help out potential hires!

Sleek launch! We have a big hiring push in H1 2024, and it takes a lot of manual hours from my team to screen initial candidates. Something automated and AI-powered like Ropes would allow us to increase our top-of-funnel and give all candidates a first shot.
I'm curious how Ropes thinks about bias in the interview process? If done thoughtfully, I could see Ropes being a less-bias, more holistic screen than the traditional screening platforms.

@julieechenn Sounds like a great use case for Ropes! And great question RE bias.
Even if we don't try to, all interviewers carry some bias when evaluating candidates. We all have bad days or have our minds on other priorities.
Ropes evaluates every candidate against the exact same criteria (set by the employer), which creates a standard of consistency impossible with humans. Our platform also reduces bias vs. traditional screening platforms - instead of putting candidates in two buckets (pass / fail), we allow all candidates to differentiate themselves.
Open to ideas on how we can improve here!
This looks awesome, and tbh the product I’ve been awaiting most since I learned about GPT’s coding abilities!
As a candidate, I’ve always hated the coding pre-assessments. Confusing question phrasing, obscure test cases and the ticking clock caused a ton of unnecessary stress. Very curious to see how the candidate-centric design of Ropes compares in practice

@hirday_gupta Thanks Hirday, appreciate those words. We'll learn more with time - but we're making a commitment to be a candidate-first platform, from day 1. Thanks for the support!

Great application of AI. This is one of the most broken processes in tech. Excited to see how this changes my experiences on the interviewer and interviewee side. Want to learn more about the user’s experience!

Looks fantastic!! Very compelling for both employers and candidates - I look forward to following along.
