A fast, mobile-first map of shops, restaurants, hotels and ATMs that take
Bitcoin. Every listing is dated and scored 0 to 100 for freshness, so you know
what was confirmed last week and what nobody has checked since 2021. Browse by
city, country or category. Owners can claim their spot and keep it correct.
Built on BTC Map and OpenStreetMap open data, fully attributed. No cookies, no
tracking.
The freshness indicators on each listing are a really thoughtful touch, it sets realistic expectations instead of pretending the data is live everywhere. Nice job building on BTC Map without trying to hide where it comes from.
@cyrus_kingsford Thank you, and thank you especially for noticing the attribution. That is not modesty: BTC Map and the OpenStreetMap contributors are the reason any of this exists, and a directory that quietly reused their work while presenting itself as the source would deserve to fail.
Since you commented, three things changed, all of them downstream of what you noticed:
Every listing now carries a confidence score from 0 to 100 instead of a plain freshness tag, built from how recently it was confirmed and how complete its payment details are. And the site records a snapshot of every city every day, so from now on it can also say which cities are growing and which are quietly dying. That series cannot be reconstructed afterwards: today's map is public, last month's exists only because somebody was writing it down.
The other change is unglamorous and matters more than it sounds: city, country, category and listing pages are now plain server-rendered HTML rather than the map application, so they are readable without JavaScript. Answer engines could not read a single listing before that.
You clearly understand the problem better than most. Which city would you check first? I will go through it by hand and fix what is wrong.

Two of you landed on the same thing here without talking to each other: the
freshness indicator. That turned out to be the whole product, so that is what I
built on.
Since launch:
- Every listing now carries a 0 to 100 freshness score next to the date it was
last confirmed. Nothing is hidden for being unverified, it is labelled.
- City, country and category pages, so you can browse without touching the map.
- A stats page backed by a daily snapshot, so the numbers have a history
instead of being a screenshot of today.
- Speed: the map now paints roughly four times sooner on a phone, and city
pages open instantly.
- Readable URLs for every listing.
- Owners can claim their spot, correct it and publish an offer.
- Proper privacy policy and terms. No cookies, no tracking, no signup to look.
Next: non-custodial bookkeeping. A merchant points at a watch-only address and
gets a report their accountant can actually use. No keys, no seeds, no funds,
ever.

finally a btc map that actually shows when the data is stale, that freshness tag is huge for finding places that still really accept bitcoin.
@yeldem50906 Thanks. That tag exists because I got tired of walking to shops that stopped accepting years ago.
Here is the number behind it, now that the site keeps its own history: every month a few hundred listings appear in the open data and roughly a hundred quietly disappear. Nobody publishes that second figure, which is exactly why a map that looks confident about everything is misleading you.
Since your comment, the freshness tag became a score from 0 to 100, and every city now has its own page with those numbers on it.
Which city are you in? Tell me what is wrong on its page and I will fix it this week.
