Hey Product Hunt 👋 I’m Nolan, founder of Scout Out (YC W26). We started ScoutOut after spending months talking to residential contractors and watching how estimating actually gets done. Every bid meant re-interpreting plans, re-counting quantities, and rebuilding a proposal from scratch — slow, inconsistent, and expensive, especially for small teams. We originally explored the problem from the homeowner side, but quickly learned the real bottleneck was on the contractor side. So we pivoted to focus on what contractors actually need: a faster, more reliable way to turn plans into bids they can trust. ScoutOut uses AI to generate structured material and labor takeoffs from residential plans, which contractors can review, customize, price, and turn into professional proposals. Instead of starting from zero, they start with a clean, standardized estimate — saving time and helping them win more work. We’re starting in Los Angeles, working closely with contractors on remodels and post-fire rebuilds following the Palisades and Eaton fires. automating takeoffs is the holy grail, but blueprints are often messy scans. does this require clean CAD files, or can it parse hand-drawn sketches and notes too?
