Thanks @sandersaar! Supporting international retailer and foreign currency is on our roadmap. If we end up with a lot of users wanting this support, we will definitely bump it up in priority.
Cheers,
Chris
@cklone@sandersaar Oh no. I guess you can add me to the list of users who requested for this feature. If it helps, I'm from India.

Really like the Amazon/Gmail integration as a way to populate the list! Made it super easy to get started. Also shout out to your design team! Love the minimalist, clean design.
This does remind me a bit of http://kit.com/, what do you guys think is your major differentiator? Is it, allowing the user to sell their products?
@eighttwo_three thanks for the kind words! We know some of the folks at kit and have a lot of respect for them. We think the difference lies in your private inventory on Shelf. A large portion of our users tell us that they're reminded of things they forgot they had, which leads them to share product experiences they wouldn't have otherwise. Also, your inventory is created using our sync technology, which means the product experiences shared on shelf are from verified purchases. Finally, like you mentioned, Shelf users can easily get rid of things they no longer need.
Concept makes a lot of sense. Anyone remember Blippy? http://techcrunch.com/2011/05/19... I think it was a little too far ahead of its time, and also suffered some privacy issues. Good one to learn from. Good luck guys!
I don't see any Apple products from my email scan. Is it really done scanning or will my shelf expand as it scans more? Is it just media products (books & dvds) or is it gadgets and tech as well?
thanks for the question @chuckkahn. Shelf’s email sync does an initial scan followed by daily scans. We scan for specific retailers, so we recognize all categories of products (not just media products). Our email receipt database is growing and it’s possible we don’t recognize some of your apple receipts yet. We’re working hard to improve this -- and as we do, more and more of your products will be added to your inventory.

@cklone then I look forward to seeing all my Apple receipts pop up some day...

Shelf's ability to catalogue all of my products with pretty much no work from my end is really impressive. I connected my Gmail and Amazon accounts (which took all of two seconds) and they pretty pretty much instantly did a flawless job of importing, categorizing, and organizing all of the stuff I bought. I also was able to quickly import something that I bought in person (an xbox game I got at GameStop) by just pasting in a URL.
I'm hoping that more of my friends start to use this so that we can rely on each other for product recommendations instead of hunting for reviews, etc.
@siegeleddie glad to hear you had a good experience! Loved seeing your Arnold collection on Shelf :)

I love that you call out a bunch of value propositions and don't explicitly message about identifying through material objects. Still, I found myself viewing this like a Goodreads or Last.fm for products, both of which I end up using to express my identity, evaluate compatibility with other people, and envy in others' taste. That comparison to Goodreads/Last.fm bodes well for market success! "Discover products your friends love" is the value proposition that hit strongest for me, but not enough to activate.
