This is such a no-brainer for me. I have been working in the start-up world for a long time, always surrounded by VCs and angel investors, but never quite having the wealth to get in on the deals that they were. Now, I am able to expand my own portfolio and invest in some exciting start ups. The model makes sense too as a long-play investment vehicle. The longer I stay with the platform, the lower my risk profile and the higher the chance of one of my portfolio start-ups going bananas!
I considered crowdfunding platforms before this, but found it to messy and time consuming for the amount that I am investing.

My co-founder @robert_halligan and I built Shuttle to scratch an itch we had ourselves. Having both come from the tech world ourselves (me on the technical side and Rob on the commercial) we had front row seats to the venture backed companies we worked with. We saw their products evolve, teams grow and valuations skyrocket after fresh rounds of funding. We even saw some we worked with acquired for huge amounts…
We’ve been investing ourselves in public markets and crypto for nearly a decade, and naturally our curiosity about other asset classes grew. Unfortunately we had no way of investing in the VC backed tech companies we worked with. For that, you needed the right network, and even then, without the right net-worth, access is useless. We couldn’t write €25K cheques, which is often the minimum entry amount, and we didn’t have the network, leaving us frustrated and locked out.
We spoke with hundreds of other people like ourselves and realised there was a big opportunity in front of us. We got to work getting regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland to operate across Europe. A painstaking process for a couple of underfunded founders with young families. A process that took us almost 2 years end-to-end.
We launched late last year and have now co-invested alongside almost 20 well known European & US VCs in six exciting startups. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved so far but we’re only scratching the surface.
Through launching Shuttle it’s become painfully obvious that the underlying infrastructure for private markets remains fragmented, slow, and manually intensive. The systems are built for institutional capital and cannot scale to handle millions of individual investors or thousands of emerging managers.
We believe private markets won’t scale through tokenisation or marketplaces – they’ll scale through standardisation. That’s why we’re building the first vertically integrated infrastructure layer that standardises how capital forms, moves, and is managed within Europe’s private markets.
We’re not simply building a platform; we’re building the operating system for Europe’s private markets – the rails, standardised workflows, network, and data layer that will enable true scale.
For the individuals, it means access to investment opportunities historically reserved for high net worths and institutions - through a simple, intuitive user experience.
And for deal managers, it means retail capital that behaves like institutional capital.

@brendan_scullion2 Thanks for the comment Brendan! We focus on early stages (pre-seed - Series A) and look to invest in future rounds of companies we already back, following them through the various stages!
