This is great. Personally we use the local mother's group for this sort of thing but having access beyond our local area is handy. Anna and I were just talking today about have a mobile app with the Berkeley Parents Network baked in (curated nuggets from years of BPN email digest).
Interestingly I ran a lean startup workshop in Italy recently and so many of the parenting challenges (childcare, finding baby stuff, advice) that many of my friends experience here in the US were simply not problems there - typically many family members were nearby to help out in a pinch.
