Hi Owen (@ow) - in almost all cases our customers have invested in a better connection and gigabit access points improving the WiFi experience.
We never post anything, force an action or require anything beyond simple identification when you access the network. Just curious why that's terrible in your opinion.
Wouldn't you want the places you visit to take into account things such as your musical interests or give you something special for being an awesome repeat customer with the need for a plastic card?
Either way, I'll still read your video game coverage. :)
@mpwn Hey Mike, I like the idea and the execution of how you do it, I guess my concern comes from years of being screwed with by dodgy app makers on Facebook but it certainly appears that you're not doing that. Terrible was the wrong word to use in that last post :).
The biggest problem you probably have is getting customers to trust you enough to link their accounts -- not too hard, especially if you're offering real offers on top of free wifi -- but it could be a barrier to getting them onboard.
I'd be curious to know how many people land on a Wifi Facebook connect page and actually authenticate and how many don't? Since many are probably accustomed to having to watch ads to get in, this does seem like a better alternative than a 2 minute pre-roll before you can connect. ;)
Out of curiosity, what advantage does this have over Facebook's wifi product that does something similar? https://www.facebook.com/busines...
I came across SocialSign.in among companies graduated Techstars NYC recently. What they do can be interpreted and utilized by many types of businesses differently and sounds like a great marketing channel for customers.

HI Shubham (@theforthwall), we love WiFi and hate logging in too. With SocialSign.in you only have to log in one time ever per device. Then jumping on at other places is just a button click.
As a marketing person, this is awesome. As a end user, this is horrible. I don't know if I would allow connecting to Facebook over just making a 3G hotspot in that situation.
