How does it actually figure out the fewest payments when the group gets past like 6 or 7 people with uneven amounts? Curious if the math holds up or if it just does the obvious settle-ups.

Great question. Under the hood it's a bit more than the obvious settle-ups: 1. Every split is done in integer cents, with the leftover cents distributed one at a time, so balances always reconcile to exactly zero β no rounding drift, even when amounts don't divide evenly. 2. It nets everyone down to a single balance, then settles greedily: repeatedly match the biggest debtor with the biggest creditor, transfer the smaller of the two, repeat. (Same "simplify debts" strategy Splitwise uses.) 3. Bonus: people who never actually shared an expense are settled separately, so you'll never get a suggested payment between two people who had nothing in common. On the theory: the provably-minimum number of payments is NP-hard (you'd have to search for subsets of balances that cancel out). The greedy method always fully settles in at most Nβ1 transfers for N people, and for real-world uneven amounts it's effectively always the true minimum or within one transfer of it. So with 6β7 people it holds up well.
Would love an option to save recurring groups (like my usual soccer crew) so I don't have to re-add everyone for every match. Bonus if it shows running totals across trips so you can spot who usually covers more.

Great suggestion β and good news: the next update(released, version1.0.2) makes groups persistent with
a fixed member list, so your soccer crew becomes a saved group and you just log
each match as an expense. No more re-adding everyone every time.
The "who usually covers more" part is exactly where I want to take it next β a
per-person running total (how much each person has fronted over time) so you can
see who tends to cover the group. It's on the roadmap. Really appreciate you
taking the time to spell it out. β½
