You know what I'd like as a spin on this? I'd like is for machines to know when to leave me the hell alone, automagically, then stack up whatever it is they want to tell me until later. My friends usually know I'll get back to them whenever, and where I am - machines are clueless though.
The app crashing for anyone else? It was working fine the first week or so but now it crashes every time i try to add a new location and just closes out.... i've *yet* to achieve adding my gym status :( cc: @kul
@imkialikethecar sorry Kia! Is this ios or android? If you go into the app settings, hit send feedback, it'll send us a log which will help debug the issue. I'll look into it myself.
@kul iOS and I did send a feedback email :) with that said, i think it might be a problem with my phone -- it's been doing that with other map/location instances for the past week (yelp, Fb, etc.) Thanks for getting back to me tho!
@kul This is fantastic. Execution is pretty flawless at first glance.
I worked on a very similar idea and had a couple takeaways that are totally relevant here:
- Empty room syndrome is tough: I used Facebook integration to tell users with no friends on the app which friends live in the city they're in (great for travel).
- Fomo works for growth: you inherently know who in a person's phone book is on the app and where they are. Tell users that they have friends hanging out together somewhere to entice them to add more - its a killer push notification.
- Make location actionable: I used uber integration to allow users to go directly to friends' locations without much fuss.
There are more but I'll save those for another time. Either way, great work and good luck!
@thatguyBG thanks Brett! yeah, empty room syndrome will be tough, we're looking at ways to make the app useful for friends not on the app too. Lots we can do to optimize discovery and incentives to sign up, as you mention!
thanks for the feedback!

I like the concept, but I don't think I'd use the app. An app where the usefulness is directly correlated to the amount of my friends on it isn't the kind of thing I just download for fun.
@lewisflude hey Lewis, fair point, this won't appeal to everyone! The roadmap has a way where it works with friends not on the app yet. You can push statuses via text and send stuff like "on my way". Thanks for the feedback.
@kul - I'm really liking the app so far. Smooth onboarding and really handy for making plans with / keeping tabs on busy friends/SO.
One thing in the android app that could be improved is that I couldn't find any sort of message history. I asked a Y/N question and got a response in a push notification (good so far). But then my ADD self got distracted, didn't read the notification to see the answer, so I headed to the app to find the answer.. couldn't figure out how to find it or if it's possible. Clicking the message bubble brought up a new question.
Keep it up!
@ericwattage version 1.2.3 should have a questions tab now. sorry about that, we kinda rushed it in, the feature is still being polished!

@kul been using this for a few days now with my wife and it's definitely helped improve our coordination when we're meeting up for errands / lunch.
Quick thought, when I'm on a friend's status page and I expand the map view, I find myself wanting to double tap to zoom in to getter a clearer picture of the user's location (which results in the map collapsing again). I primarily use the app in one hand when I'm on the move so having to pinch to zoom is kind of rough on an iPhone 6 when I'm on the move.
@rustydingo hey Adrian, I'll ask Omar if he can make the UI register double tap as zoom on that view. It may not be possible. Related question, is the default zoom too far out? How close do you want it? We tried to make it dynamic, the further someone is from you, the more zoomed out it is (I figured I don't need to know streets etc for friends in NY).

@kul thanks for your reply. Gut feeling I don't think the default zoom is too far out. If friends are in a location like work or home then I never want to zoom into the map as I know where they are.
I tend to want to zoom in when I'm meeting a friend to try and better gauge their ETA. Hope that helps?
