I've lived with T1D for 20+ years. The mental load never switches off - but nobody talks about the admin. The prep, the planning, the appointments, the "what ifs." That invisible workload is half the job, and it goes massively unnoticed. Existing apps track data. Steady1 carries the weight. I'm building the app I always needed - shaped by the community from day one. Because we're entering a new era of diabetes. One where we don't just survive. We thrive. I didn't set out to build an app. I set out to stop feeling like diabetes was a full-time job on top of my actual life.
Growing up, my mum handled most of the admin. The appointments, the prep, the endless planning. I saw it - but I didn't feel it. Not until I moved away from home and it all landed on me at once. 100%.
That's when everything shifted. Because in that moment I wasn't just a diabetic learning to cope — I also finally understood every carer who had ever stood in that position. The watching. The quiet planning. The invisible weight carried without complaint, day after day, so that someone else didn't have to. Growing up alongside that gave me something rare - a view from both sides of this condition. And once you see it that clearly, you can't unsee it.
That's what led me to train as an Learning Support Educator (LSE) for a young T1D - just two years old. My main qualification? Living with diabetes myself. It was the most meaningful work I've ever done - and it made one thing impossible to ignore: this industry is crying out for something better.
So we're building it. My partner and Co-Founder runs the tech — a T1D carer who understands this world from the other side. Between us, we don't have theories about what people with diabetes need. We have lived it. Both of us. Every day. We wake up at 3am to deal with the lows or highs. We plan every day like there's no tomorrow.
Steady1 isn't built from a boardroom or a market report. It's built from 20 years of carrying this - and knowing exactly where it gets heavy.
