I can't speak for them but we're focused on working at all places both now and and in the future. Our technology evolves as the payments industry evolves. Our members enjoy an annual brand new, latest generation Stratos Card. We want to make sure our users have the most up-to-date technology and features on both hardware and software.
Hi Henry, good job on building this product, it looks really awesome! I was about to purchase one last night and remembered that in October 2015, retailers will not be able to accept swiped transactions. Is Stratos EMV compatible? If not, what is your plan there? Thanks.

@florentferere Not true. VISA and Mastercard will no longer offer fraud protection for retailers that accept swiped transactions. 100% roll out of chipped CCs will take 2-3 years if not longer.

We are continually working on enhancing our systems and one of the big reasons we use a membership model is to ensure our members have the most up to date cards. Additionally, we are building a tokenized connected card platform that uses one time use stripe data (and contactless EMV/NFC) to secure payment. You can go a lot more in depth with how our cards interact with chip cards here:

As with Plastc and Coin, without a network brand (Visa/MC/AmEx/Discover), merchants can refuse to accept this. Outside of SoMa, I suspect that most merchants will see this and be skeptical of swiping it.
@megerman why would someone want to reject it? Everywhere I've used my coin the staff are super intrigued and think it's awesome.

How is this different from Coin? Personally, I believe the time for these type of cards was in the last few years - now it's all about the likes of Apple Pay, [company name] Pay, etc.
I want to eliminate cards (and hopefully the wallet, soon!) completely rather than still have one to carry around.

I look forward to the first of these services that extracts value from the most cost effective value store. i.e. Loyalty cards, specific credit card because of current balance and rewards offered, debit card etc.
