Use Sunset to find and close financial accounts after a death: Bank accounts, 401k, IRA, Life Insurance, Credit Cards, real estate, and more.
Well..not exactly as presented. I entered my mother’s information, death certificate, etc..
Then the site asks for permission to oversee and manage accounts on my behalf.
Um..haven’t seen any accounts and not sure what I’m agreeing to but..okay.
You claim to have found assets. But the site does not allow me to click through for any of the categorized assets. Shows real estate assets, no debt and also bank accounts with apparent balances..but I can’t access any of what was found.
Instead, here’s the prompt..
“Sunset has received financial account results and is ready to review with you. Please call (385) 707-0085 during business hours to speak to an account representative.”
A little misleading?
This is interesting.
1) Financial institutions protect their account holders in utmost privacy and has to pass identification and security. How are you getting them to release the data within a few minutes?
2) You mentioned the institutions will not know if there's a search. I am very skeptical of this. How will they not know you are trying to lookup the account holder?
3) Closing accounts require many steps, how will the institutions allow you to close it without anything in writing from the beneficiary? Don't you need some type of will to close and disbursed to the livings (beneficiary)?
Would love to see how this can work. If this can be done without going through all the red tapes, including legal requirements), then I would be your biggest fan.
what a painful problem to solve! i've seen this challenge come up a few times and it's so painful at an already painful time
