Exciting to see Sure on PH today! 👏
I remember trying out a very early version of Sure almost two years ago, seems like a lot has happened since then. Will definitely give it a spin again!
How do you make sure your recommendations and content is accurate and good?
@rikkekoblauch thanks for your comment and great to see that you're still with us as one of the very first users 🙌
We realised that people tend to trust social media influencers, particularly Instagrammers, more than strangers on e.g. Yelp and that's why we focus on Instagram influencers like food bloggers in our curation engine. We look at things like their follower base and quality of pictures but to make the place info as accurate as possible, we connect it with other APIs like Google Maps and Foursquare too.

Hi - does this work in the UK or is it primarily a US development? Or does it just work globally based on Instagram being popular enough in each region regarding places to eat?
Hi @ashtube 👋 We're actually based from Copenhagen and Vancouver and Sure today works in 22 cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Austin, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Rome, Paris, Vienna, Barcelona, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Prague, Bratislava, Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong.
There's really no real limitation to the backend so as you're saying, Instagram being popular enough for foodie recommendations would do it.

@jurajpal Great - thanks Juraj. I'll be sure to check it out for finding places to eat in London. I seem to always struggle with other services and reviews/ratings can be purchased or swayed (free meals = more positive reviews when not reaaaally positive)
@ashtube thanks! And I know exactly what you're talking about since the same frustration was one of the reasons why we started. No free meals here 🚫🍔

This has such amazing potential. Looking forward to using it as I travel around Europe!
One question, does it factor in likes on photos as a way to rank the places?
@brad_wolff thanks Brad, means a lot 🙌 We're not doing this yet but what a great idea!

@jurajpal Truly have not been so impressed by something on PH in a long time. Followed Sure on Facebook and crunchbase. Let me know if you need a teammate in NY!
One of the best bots I've seen so far. Will definitely give it a try. Is there a way to filter spots by location?
Edit: when I try adding the bot via your website, it says 'username not found'
How were you guys able to convince Instagram to use their API for this purpose? It sounds like they want to prevent apps/services like this that are based on just better navigating their content. Or are you just publicly scraping with some black box magic?
@allany888 we're leveraging public information available via Instagram to find new and trending places and then using a multitude of APIs to build a consolidated experience for our users 👍

Really cool concept! I love the idea that it's popular places from instagram, that is usually where I find the best recommendations.
This is so cool! I am really excited to try this out when I am faced with a mean dilemma, however playing around with it just now it seems to give me a lot of places that are over 1.5km away, while it's nice to know what's good around town, it would be nice to be able to narrow down the distance to short walkable distances. But I love the idea, no more weaving through fake comments and saving Instagram posts all day
