I've been using Songkick for this but it feels data and still uses my Last.FM data which I no longer publish to. Spotify is a way more relevant choice for me.
That said, I do like that Songkick sends me an email when an artists I like has a show, so I don't have to constantly check the site.
@ccarella the songkick emails are great, but they are typically when a show is announced, many months in advance. If you don't action it immediately, it slips through the cracks. The goal of this app (which actually uses songkick data) is to show you all the relevant upcoming shows on one page, so you can action them when you're in the mood for making plans.
@ptrwtts This is such a relevant point. I can't tell you how many times I've been stoked to find a Songkick email about an artist I love only to find out the show is six months down the road. I barely know what I'm doing tomorrow!
@lylemckeany I usually throw the date tickets go on sale on my calender because very often in NYC, a show sells out in the first 10 minutes. So its unlikely I can decide on Friday to go see a band I like that same night (besides for friends bands and smaller indie bands).
@lylemckeany@ptrwtts yeah great point, Lyle. Do they send follow-ups? Seems like a classic example of when you need to hear a marketing message X times before it "clicks". And this is a rare example where I'd actually *want* the advertiser to do it :)
Thanks @daualset! @rrhoover yep, there are plenty of similar products. but each has it's flaws. I just wanted something insanely simple that you could glance at and get all the relevant information in one go. Another key difference is the ease with which you can add & remove artists, in order to tailor to your interests. Too many products require multiple clicks for a user to follow / remove something, which discourages them from curating their graph and making the product their own.
Report
@ptrwtts have discovered the Tame Impala Live Sessions from the app, nice!
Report
I was just going to post this, enjoying it right now.
"After logging in with Spotify, it checks your playlists to see what you like, and shows a highly relevant selection of New Releases and Upcoming Concerts. It is designed to be personal (everything is tailored to your taste), steerable (quickly add & remove artists to improve results) and easy to digest (only critical information, displayed clearly)."
