Hey ProductHunt! I'm a longtime ProductHunter, first time (ProductHunt) Maker. I made Swipewipe because of one undeniable truth: My camera roll is a mess. Just glancing at my last week of photos, there's a snap of my license plate (for when I was paying for parking up at a restaurant in Maine), a couple blurry pics, some duplicates, and a few screenshots I don't need anymore. The great thing about having a camera in your pocket 24/7 is that you can take pictures wherever. (And I did get some great photos and videos over that span!) But it also means that we take a TON of photos, and many of them aren't worth keeping. It's kind of a pain to keep up with. I'm always struck by the beautiful (physical) photo albums my parents have. They're wonderful to flip through. My camera roll doesn't inspire the same feeling, even though it goes back almost 10 years at this point. Swipewipe helps you get rid of the junk so that there's more room for the good stuff. There are absolutely other apps that help you clean up your camera roll. Actually, I tried a bunch of them first. Even paid for a couple. But none of them worked like I imagined. I have over 18,000 photos on my phone, and more than 2,500 videos. The thought of sorting through those pictures one-by-one is daunting. And I didn't want to rely on an algorithm to go through these personal memories. So, I designed Swipewipe to be sort of like a to-do list. YOU go through your photos, month-by-month, and once you've reviewed all the photos from that month (deleting some, keeping others) the month gets crossed off. If it's taking a while to go through a month (for example - all my months since we had our baby last year are huge, with hundreds of photos) you can leave it, and there's a little progress indicator next to that month, showing you a visual depiction of how much further you have to go. Finally, you get to see - on a month-by-month basis, and in aggregate - how much memory you've saved by deleting the photos. I've been told that it feels a bit like a game, and some early users have reported that they take it out while watching TV, waiting at the barber, whatever, and go through old pictures. The stroll down memory lane is actually appreciated. So often, with our phones, we take pictures, and then don't really look at them again. Swipewipe resurfaces them and asks you: Are you sure you want to keep this? Anyway, that's how Swipewipe works! Happy to answer any questions or chat about the nature of photography on our phones. Nathan Jurgenson's "The Social Photo" is a favorite book of mine, and changed how I thought about how we use our cameras today. - Adam edit: P.S. - in addition to swiping right to keep and left to delete, you can tap on a photo to go to the previous one!

@evivz @adamokane A feature request to add to this: swipe up (or down) to favorite! Let's be honest, I'm not going to get around to creating specific albums. But I do enjoy my photos more when I've chosen favorites! So keep/delete/favorite is the most useful simple swipe choice, for me at least.

@evivz @ben_burns1 I like that a lot...we're toying with an interaction that deals with vertical swipes, so they may get in eachother's way, but I want to find a way to either like/share/elevate some photo that you like above others, because you really do discover some hidden gems when you go far back in your camera roll. Thanks for your thought!

I'm on Android so I haven't had a chance to try it out, but is there a functionality to compare similar shots and pick the best one (for cleaning up duplicates)?

@awadirathu We don't have a great way to do this...and it's a huge pain point, I know. You can tap on a photo to go back to the previous one, but that's an imperfect way. You can also review the pictures before you batch delete the ones for that month. But this is probably the top thing I want to address in the next update. Thanks for the question!

The app I didn't know I needed. That little gamifying edge and report tracking are all it takes for me to finally get around to finally clearing out my library. Purchased within minutes of trying it out, thanks for the great app!

Simple solution to a challenging problem. As someone who takes a lot of photos I am weary of the applications that automatically "cleanse" my camera roll - that seems too good to be true and I am not trusting of our machine overlords with my personal memories (just not yet!). The gamification and to-do list nature of Swipewipe alleviates this concern, streamlines the process, and keeps it fun!
