Inspiration Source The mainstream method for most people learning a foreign language is still through text, and I am no exception. When facing foreign friends, I find it almost impossible to join in the conversation. I believe many people, like me, have a need to improve their spoken English (or other languages). It's challenging to find someone in real social circles who can practice speaking with you, and there hasn’t been a good solution to this problem until now. With the advancement of AI capabilities, we realized that this issue could be addressed through TTS (Text-to-Speech) and language models, hence we developed this app. We adopted a stream-of-consciousness driven mode to solve the issue of conversations running dry. I will elaborate on this feature later. Core Gameplay When a user opens a dialogue box with the AI, the AI initiates a voice conversation. This setup allows users to quickly engage in a dialogue. Currently, users can only respond to the AI's dialogue through voice, a strong setting designed to ensure they practice their speaking skills. If users don't understand the AI's reply or question, or cannot continue the conversation, they can use thought processes to resolve this. This is the most core module of our app. The thought list includes 8 types of thinking personalities (with more to come), which you can think of as little people in your brain. They are: Philosopher, Thought Jumper, Bootlicker, Orator, Historian, Observer, Translator, and Rock Star. Whenever a user clicks on a thought, it answers the AI's question in line with that thought personality, creating conversational topics or generating new motivations for the user.
