@schneider thanks Michael! We have started with entertainment categories because we feel music, movies, books etc have global appeal, tell a lot about our personality and are all generally available on App Stores around the world. We also have an exciting new feature rolling out next month which will help further explain why we started with digital content. Phase 2 will be going into more lifestyle areas to allow people to connect more broadly and more specifically. Our average user is already sharing north of 200 interest data points so the graph is already getting pretty deep. Thanks for the great question and keep up the great work with @getservice
Nice to see a dating app that focuses on more than just the photos and really tries to leverage interests (instead of just displaying them). Have you thought about taking this beyond dating also? Seems like there are some interesting possibility with this "interest graph" you're be creating.
@lorenappin thanks for the positive feedback, glad you like what we are up to! We are very focused on leveraging the interest graph that we are building to personalize people's lives. Our users are sharing a huge amount of personal interest data that we want to use to help improve multiple aspects of their daily lives. Initially we are helping them find more meaningful personal relationships which we know is a massive current pain point for the Millennial generation. Beyond that the data can help us deliver personalized advertising, commerce and content recommendations. Connecting our Tastemates community not only to people that match their taste but also to things that match their taste. Stay tuned.
Thanks to @gillianim for hunting us. It is our first time on Product Hunt and we are super excited to be officially launching Tastemates today on Valentine's Day on both the Apple and Google Play app stores!
We believe that we are more than just a photo. We believe our taste defines who we are, the movies, books, music, shows etc that we love and is the best indicator of compatibility with other people. We spend our life trying to find our taste tribe, people who are into what we are into and who can turn us on to stuff that we are not into yet. That's the magic of life. Unfortunately we felt that all the current networks weren't doing a good enough job of 1) letting us share our taste in a fun, mobile friendly way and 2) connecting us with friends and potential romantic partners who we actually have something in common with. Finding your soulmate is a top priority for many guys and girls. We hope to eliminate all those bad dates when you realize you have nothing in common with the other person. Instead of spending multiple coffee dates finding out about the other person's interests and if you think they match with yours, you can now just view their profile and do some pre-screening. Our algorithm takes into account all your overlaps and differences and organizes all your mates by a match %. You can find mates to go to see concerts with, go to the movies with, chat about your favorite book with or hopefully find someone who can be your soulmate and life partner. I was lucky enough to find mine so nothing would make us happier than helping you find yours!
Happy Valentines everyone!
Finally someone taking a fresh approach at the dating + meeting new friends space. For women, it's still way too much work to find a decent guy that you actually have something in common with. I like the approach of using your interests as a way to filter down to the most compatible people. Otherwise, you're just wasting time.
I think of it like a more fun, millennial version of eharmony. No boring questions, just fun swiping. Looks like you can even listen to music as you swipe. Well done for launching and perfect timing to hopefully help people find their soulmate on Valentines Day!
@shannonchang12 Thanks for the shout out Shannon, glad you like it! Our only aim is to make the world a friendlier place for everyone. There is nothing better than bonding with someone over a book you've just read or a concert you just went to or a TV show you can't stop bingeing! We hope to able to connect people around all these interest areas to find new friends and as you point out, hopefully their soulmate! Happy Valentine's!
Tastemates is about finding people who share your interests: share your favorite books, movies, etc easily by swiping and it builds a profile that can match you with people who you might like. I appreciate the fact that it's platonic (or that's an option, at least)...

I think you shouldn't ask for gender user is interested in, or at least give the option of choosing both. I was hoping it wasn't just another dating app rather that it was friends finder, as name suggests ;)
@oskar_cieslik thanks for the feedback, sorry I missed it on launch day. We do have an option of choosing both! :) Check the latest update. #notjustanotherdatingapp - we are swinging for the fences and looking to be THE taste based network that will eclipse current socially connected networks. People want more value from their networks and having the context of relevancy through common interests will help drive people to actions and transactions.

Great concept! Love that I can connect with people with the same interests as me. Right now, there's only wide range message boards Ala Reddit, meet up groups (which are so vast), and random small 'user enthusiast groups' this seems like a nice way to connect on common ground to make some new friends! Congrats team!
service.
