Hey all, I started working on Tender a year ago to help with my anxiety around my spending habits while funemployed last year. I wanted a way to convince myself that my spending wasn’t out of line, and my money wasn’t just disappearing into the void. Tender was my answer - a way to get myself to be more mindful of spending without worrying that I’d miss something. @max_savonin1 - thanks for the note! We thought a little bit about how a free version might work, but we didn't want to compromise our ideals on it. For instance, the subscription fee we charge covers our on-going costs - for instance, linking with user's bank accounts comes with recurring fees for us. It's possible we could do a free version of the product that doesn't come with bank integrations if there's demand for it, but we suspect most folks want the automatic bank import.

@tony_xiao thanks! no api yet.. any thoughts on what you'd want do with one? Since we're building the app to work locally on your device, it's a bit tougher to say how we might support API-like interactions. We have a fledgling mobile support with our web app (works well with "add to home screen" tricks on ios/android: https://tender.run/install), but no plans for native app right now. We're hopeful that we can build a good mobile experience with the web platform.

@stpnwn I'd want to use it to get data in / out of the system. Hmm is data not stored in the cloud at all? And if it's local only data what about backup? And finally perhaps there can be a local API?

I love Tender!!! I hated keeping track of personal spending and never bothered with it before. But Tender has made the process so easy and fast, that I now regularly get to inbox zero! With the rules that automatically categorize transactions and nice UI to quickly go through them, I can get through all my transactions in just a few minutes. And being able to do that on my phone when I'm out and have a spare min is really nice too. My boyfriend always nagged me about being more responsible about my finances, so Tender has really been a game changer.

Congrats on the launch! Do you have plans to add tax calculation and for example a possibility to submit a tax self-assessment form? Do you have plans to cover the UK and Europe? I would recommend using GoCardless instead of Plaid in this region

@laocool Thank you! We've been thinking about international expansion and when it makes sense to tackle - we actually just added a waitlist form on the website to gauge interest. In particular, we'll probably start with support for multiple currencies (my banks are in the US, but I spend euros too sometimes!) and then move into adding more banking partners.

@bonvisions You know, the funny thing is we've heard all sorts of things from customers about how often they go through their inbox. I like to review my inbox every few days, but other folks have said they like to review each month. The nice part is that Tender works well to keep track of where you are, even if you have an inbox with 10k transactions. 😆 With security, there are a few dimensions. One is that we use the same encryption on disk and in transport your bank might to store user data in our backend. For logins, we originally opted to only support passkeys (i.e. face/touch id/biometrics only) to login, but we've compromised and also support sign in with Google now. We didn't want to support traditional passwords at all because they're too easy to phish and compromise. We also built Tender to work local-first, i.e. all of the operations involving your data (apart from bank import) happen on your device, which sets us up to support full end-to-end encryption in the future. @yonz We have a small backend that does authentication and syncing tasks, so we associate the passkey credential and the stripe info there. We try to do as much as possible in the client, on device, but some things like auth, billing, and syncing need a server component.
