@tzhongg Great question. In some ways, we were inspired by the early Foursquare lists feature (I was an early Foursquare user). Terrapn is different in a few important ways:
1) Focus on Collections: we are 100% focused on collections. Foursquare is so many other things - lists is just a feature for them, which has been prioritized & de-prioritized in varying degrees. We believe a product that helps food lovers organize places is big enough to be its own ecosystem.
2) Privacy: because of our focus on collections, we give foodies a ton of flexibility on collection privacy. You can make as many as you like, organize them any way you want, and make them totally private, visible only to those with the link, or shared for all to see.
3) Context: we act as meta search across popular food rating sites and show both Yelp and Foursquare ratings for each place (where the data exist) for added context. We wanted to automatically aggregate all the info foodies need for themselves - and for their friends, when sharing.
4) Maps: Our goal is to simplify the way people communicate the (food) places they love. Usually, people share place recommendations in hopes that their friends actually visit those spots. Visually showing *where* the places are, in every view & interaction of the collection, is a big part of that.
There's more to Terrapn, but those are probably the most relevant to your question.
