The Book of Disquiet

This is probably the masterpiece of one of the best poets of the twentieth century. The world started to discover Fernando Pessoa almost only after his death in 1935, when 25,000 documents (essays, plays, poems, even horoscopes) were found in his attic and the academic scramble to assemble them began. He developed more than 70 different 'heteronyms' (pseudonymous). For each of his 'voices', Pessoa conceived a highly distinctive personality: a different poetic style, a complex biography, a context of literary influence and polemics.
