Born in today's world but getting trapped in a kafkaesk war that spans millennia, a solider lives through the future evolution of mankind due to the effects of relativity.
Written in 1974 and inspired by the Vietnam war, The Forever War is one of my favorite science fictions classics. The story is touching at its core and the book has aged pretty well due to its (somewhat) correct portrayal of relativistic effects.
