An idea I'm currently validating and working on. It seems like there's a lot of interest in the NFT space, but it's annoying to break into the NFT world, and know which NFTs to buy. Like ETFs solved this problem for stocks, I'm hoping to solve it for NFTs.
Hey everyone! I'm a quant trader who's been casually following NFTs for the past two months, and seriously researching them (from a financial perspective) for the past two weeks. I'm aware of platforms like NFTX that allow a degree of liquid exposure, but wasn't aware of a total NFT market index seeking to track exposure to them as an asset class (like a Vanguard index), so I made one. This is very early stage, as I haven't built out the historical tracking yet. I'm really excited to build this out, but want to make sure it's something that other people care about! Wanted to get the thoughts of the folks on Product Hunt. The main variables I'm looking at to calculate weighting of a collection are floor price and liquidity (modeled by volume, number of assets in the collection, and number of owners), with volume and floor price being the biggest factors. This is different from the way the S&P and most other equity indices operate, in that it gives liquidity a *much* bigger say in dictating weighting. This is because, obviously, the NFT market is very illiquid -- even CryptoPunks get <100 transactions in volume per day -- so it makes sense, from an economic perspective, to value a more liquid collection as being more representative of the market as a whole.
Main question for you guys -- is this theoretical basket of NFTs enough to track the total market, as it were?
I want to acknowledge that the Crypto Punk displayed (#3916) isn't mine, but rather owned by wallet address 0x577ebc!
