For ones who are interested in consciousness it is really good to read about "Gunas three material energies" topic. It tells about moral, passion and ignorant sides of the psyche, how it affects us everyday.
Found this referenced in a footnote in "Waking Up" by Sam Harris. Amazing book. The connection between our understanding of consciousness and the advent of language that he makes is very believable as a theory, and he's very persistent in his examples and deliberate in his explanation, enough so to make any reader be intrigued by the possibility he describes.
One of the Amazon reviews mentions how the reader is awestruck by the fact that Jaynes was able to develop these theories before the benefit of neuroimaging. Reminds me of Dre's line "I was making money 'fore the internet"; I think Jaynes was forced to think in a much more different way than current approaches towards explaining consciousness are being developed (in that likely too much focus is being placed on brain activity), giving us this refreshing work.
