@melissajoykong I think any kind of startup can achieve hockey stick growth. Even very infrastructure-heavy startups like Docker are seeing insane growth (they may be the fastest company to 100mm ARR ever). Though, you do see more startups that are focused on consumers achieving hockey-stick growth.

@jwmares@yegg Glad you wrote 2.0, while fundamentals and first principles (psychology, human behavior, emotions) remain consistent with passage of time, the execution or implementation (your channels) seem more fluid.
-- How will you know when it's time to write Traction 3.0? Thank you!
@decision_ I can't even think about a 3.0 at this point to be honest :). When we released 1.0 we knew there were further things we wanted to do, and we also wanted to see how people interpreted everything we wrote. After talking people to six months we had a real solid idea of where we could improve it, and I'm really proud of what we were able to do. Usually second editions get bigger, and this one is slightly smaller, even with new sections. That's because it is just much crisper, with extraneous stuff removed and other things (especially in the first five chapters) rearranged to present the ideas in the best way possible.

@yegg@decision_ Awesome job reducing the word count by synthesizing at conceptual and tactical levels!
It is my pleasure to introduce Justin Mares for an AMA today at 12pm PST. Justin is the former Director of Revenue at Exceptional, a software company that Rackspace acquired for 8 figures in 2013. He's currently working on his 3rd startup, and runs a growth meetup in San Francisco. Ask questions in advance...... :)!
(1) Which startups have most impressed you with their ability to gain traction?
(2) Have you identified any patterns amongst ones that have achieved explosive growth?
