GIFs make everything better.
It's interesting to note that Twitter is actually converting the gifs to mp4 videos and playing them in a HTML 5 video player with sound muted and looping. It's quite a bit more performant than normal gifs. As an added benefit they get control over autoplay, which is defaulted to off in stream and on if you hit a tweet page directly.
First thing I thought of is how this is going to shoot up Twitter Ad clicks when there's a gif in them. Twitter charges per interaction, so playing the gif will be included, and we all know how irresistible clicking a gif is.
