Twitter GIFs

@miradu do you know if GIFs will be allowed in Twitter ads? Seems like that could be a pretty annoying consequence if not moderated correctly.

@liveink I literally used those exact words over email for a product that's launching tomorrow morning on Product Hunt. cc @joshelman @evantana GIFs make everything better.

It's interesting to note that Twitter is actually converting the gifs to mp4 videos and playing them in a HTML 5 video player with sound muted and looping. It's quite a bit more performant than normal gifs. As an added benefit they get control over autoplay, which is defaulted to off in stream and on if you hit a tweet page directly.

First thing I thought of is how this is going to shoot up Twitter Ad clicks when there's a gif in them. Twitter charges per interaction, so playing the gif will be included, and we all know how irresistible clicking a gif is.

Sorry for the slow reply to this thread and @rrhoover comment...Sparks @yaysparks just launched today. We didn't know about Twitter GIFs until yesterday, but we're very excited to make use of it.
