This is awesome! Do you have any stats on how much faster people can read with this vs. a normal text environment?

Hey Matthew, this is really interesting but what is this based off of? Is this a common tactic for speed reading?

Loved that I was able to change the number of words that appear per chunk (I am most comfortable at 4).
@mb - Are you grabbing analytics from people who use Velocity? Configuration, number of words read, and how speed changes over time? The long-term value here seems awesome.
Came up with the idea for a great mobile app for speed reading while I was in college trying to cram a bunch of information into my brain before tests. I was using a web app called Spreeder at the time, but I really wanted that power in my phone.
product demo is great. All it needs is to finish with a bang.
Eg. You just read 78 words in 15 seconds. (bar graph showing 78 words in 15 secs dwarfing "average persons" reading speed) with the ability to share that graph.
@nbashaw Thanks. We do have some number from some studies on the technique (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rap...).
Researchers from Carnegie Mellon have found that as many as 12 words per second are readable in controlled situations (720wpm). Further research has shown that for shorter pieces of text, RSVP formats increased reading speed by 33% with no significant differences in comprehension or task load.
