Generally best practice with cryptocurrencies is to always use a new address for each transaction. But, if you don't care about that, then this is a good solution. I'm sure you could make the same thing but with it generating a unique address upon each visit fairly easily though so maybe that is something to consider for a later revision?
@vivan great piece of feedback! Security is definitely one of the most important things we need to focus on. @mubashariqbal

@mubashariqbal@sethlouey Allowing users to input their master public key and then using that to generate the address when their profile is visited would solve the problem (and also make the product significantly more attractive). If you're not planning on doing that, please let me know, as I'll build it myself. I think it's a useful tool for anyone wishing to receive crypto who prefers to use offline wallets.
@sethlouey@vivan This sounds like an great extension to the product. My understanding is that it's not always possible to get the master public key (especially with web based wallets), but for those that can would make the whole system much attractive.

@sethlouey@mubashariqbal Indeed - it isn't really useful for anyone with a web based wallet anyway, but for anyone who uses an HD wallet managed offline it is extremely useful. Personally I have found it extremely painful to receive bitcoin - you have to open up your wallet, generate a new address and then send the sender that new address. This could all be fairly easily automated. There are already several public libraries available to generate the public keys from the MPK so I imagine it wouldn't be a huge stretch. I was actually planning on building this solution as my project for the PH Hackathon, but if you are already going to do it then I'll just have to think of something else.
@sethlouey@vivan Can't tell you exactly when we'll build this (have a few other things I'd like to add first) but this is definitely on the roadmap now 😁
Feel free to build it though, lots of room for everyone building cool stuff in this space!
Nice project!
However, crypto holders are increasingly targeted for identity theft to access there tokens. Giving all your addresses makes you an even better target. What would be best security practices to use Wallet List safely?
@wimgz Most people have lots of wallets, some they share publicly others they keep private where they actually hold their funds long term.
Wallet List is mean't to be for those wallets you make public (you have to at some point to receive funds right?)
@wimgz is all of your cryptocurrency contained in one address? If so, you should change up your strategies here. Wallet List is a place where you can share you addresses that you want to list publicly.
So, if someone owes me money, I can just share https://walletlist.me/@sethlouey instead of digging around for my BTC address. Once I receive payment, then I'd move my crypto into a hardware wallet.
Wallet List makes it super simple to share your public key's on social sites. Hackers can't access your addresses without your private key.
Good idea and timing as always, you guys 👍🏻
I think you should consider a few features/settings:
1. Let the user disable robots from indexing their profile - It's simply not safe to publicly share my wallet addresses and tie them up with my identity and then letting Google help the unwanted people discovering! I read your response to moving funds to another wallet but that's another case.
2. Password protect / token based access with maybe time restriction - In case I want to privately share with select few people or give them access to my profile for a short period of time.
3. Can we have multi-list/wallet support maybe? Ex: I maintain separate wallets for personal and biz use. So it'd be great if I could share the link to my biz or personal profile. I know I can create a new account but managing from within the same account would ofc be nice and easier.
P.S. I'm yet to sign up and try. Just giving this feedback based on the quick glance and from the top of my head.

@irazasyed 1. is a very good point. I'd hate for bots to just index people's public keys. I've seen this happen before where bots trawled Github, tooked AWS tokens and spun up servers to mine. 2. Good idea as well! So password protect the page or give public access during a certain point.
@irazasyed Thank, these are great ideas, will definitely put them on the roadmap!

Congratulations @sethlouey and @mubashariqbal on launching Wallet List today 👏🎉
I was watching @sethlouey build the Front End design of Wallet List yesterday on Twitch and I learned a lot about creating FE design and building a project in general. Thanks again for doing that Seth ! 🙌
Their capacity to execute so fast is impressive 👏
@mubashariqbal@mrcalexandre just think if Mubs didn't have to work yesterday. ;)
Thanks for the kind words and sharing Wallet List. I had a blast making it in such a short time.
First nice job Mubs and Seth. This is a really simple and well designed tool that is incredibly easy to set up. I added wallets for the different cryptos I play with and was like this is super helpful....but then I started thinking about what I was doing and not sure how I feel about it.
The dark side of crypto is getting hacked or making yourself a target. And while it's hard to imagine being a target by hackers, gov't or whomever, speaking first hand as someone who was hacked and had crypto wallets attacked in the past, this seems like it could be a surveillance honeypot as it centralizes so much information about people.
It might make sense to consider adding privacy controls that make your personal URL/username public or private dependant your settings with viewable links(like in google docs/sheets) that you can share that grant access to view the page. I dunno, just something to think about....

@callmethebear Hadn't considered this thought before but I like it!
@callmethebear Nice idea Adam. I like the idea of controlling who has access to wallet list, instead of it just being public. Doesn't fit all our use cases, but having the options would make for a great feature!
