I'm Yaniv, a solo builder.
Workshopy.io started with a moment every instructor knows.
You finish a step and ask "can we move on?" A couple of nods, mostly silence. You can't tell who's done, who's still in the middle of the task, and who hit a problem and quietly stopped. I've been on the other side too: mid-task in someone else's workshop, with no good way to say "give me a minute" or "I'm stuck" without interrupting the whole room.
So I built the tool I wanted in both of those rooms:
📝 One Markdown file is the whole workshop. Every # heading is a step, #[quiz] makes it a graded quiz. Write it, paste it from your favorite AI, or import an .md file. Export it back out anytime.
🔑 Students join with a 6-character code. No accounts, no installs, any device.
👀 You see the whole room, live. Who's on which step, who's done, who's stuck. Stuck students float to the top of your list before they're lost for good.

@yaniv_grama Can students leave a private note if they’re stuck, so the instructor can help without stopping the whole session?

@david_turner12 Yes. When a participant marks that they’re stuck and need help, they can add a private note that’s visible only to the instructor.
If the instructor notices the same issue coming up from multiple participants, he can broadcast a clarification to everyone or even update the workshop live.
@yaniv_grama That’s really useful. I like that the instructor can help one person without interrupting everyone else.
Nice idea. A few questions:
I had is how do you see this being run? Right now a lot of similar workshops run on Google meet or Zoom, would this tool replace that or is it a supplement to that experience?
I couldn't quite understand from the video but where is the "work", in this case coding being done ? Is it also done on workshopy or it can be done anywhere and the participant either says its done or they are stuck ?
Other than that, pretty cool idea, not only students, even at work at times workshops can get a bit chaotic. One thought would be agentic helpers that could help unblock participants which can be helpful if say the workshop has a really large audience.

The idea came from an in-person workshop I attended at work. Whenever something was missing from the presentation, like a link or an extra step, it was shared in a dedicated Slack channel. So in that case, Zoom or Google Meet weren’t used at all.
I do think it could work well for remote workshops as well. There’s some overlap with Zoom and Meet, but as a participant I’d prefer being able to move between the steps myself instead of relying only on the presenter’s screen share. And as the person running the workshop, I’d want to see which step everyone is currently on. That’s something those tools don’t really offer.
So for remote workshops, I see it more as something that works together with Zoom or Meet, not as a replacement.
The actual work, coding in this case, is done outside Workshopy. People can use whatever tools they normally use. Workshopy is mainly where the workshop content lives, with an easier way for the presenter and participants to communicate than with a regular presentation.
I’ve also been thinking about adding AI helpers in the future. I think it could be useful for people who don’t feel comfortable asking a question in front of a large group. It could also answer questions that were already asked or that are covered somewhere in the workshop, which would take some pressure off the presenter.
But I wanted to release the product and get some feedback before going too far with that.
I want to know if this is actually a problem for other people too, and not just something that bothered me.

What happens if half the room finishes a step while the other half is still working on it?

@david_murray11 It’s fully configurable.
The facilitator can choose whether participants can view previous and upcoming steps or only the current one. This setting can also be changed during the session, and the update takes effect for everyone in real time.
Markdown for the whole workshop is a pretty nice idea. Way easier to edit too.

@reid_anderson4 Correct. The idea came from a workshop I ran using Markdown files. I found them simpler, more standardized, and easier to use with AI than other tools.
No acc for install? That alone removes a lot of hassle.

The "who's stuck" bit is actually useful. That's usually hard to spot in a live workshop.
