I made the Xerxes Pi after my home garage server slowly turned into a techno-junk jungle. At one point I had three mismatched mini PCs, a retired laptop balancing on a paint tin, home automation bits that only spoke to *their own kind*, and enough cables to catch Spiderman. The fans sounded like a jet preparing for takeoff, the power bill was quietly judging me, and every “quick tweak” turned into an afternoon of unplugging the wrong thing and knocking something offline. I just wanted one quiet, tidy, low-power rack that behaved itself and ran the stuff I actually needed — so I built it, the Xerxes Pi! What do you guys think? Do you guys run your own home lab? Hi everyone, I m Rob, and I have a completely under-control, very reasonable addiction to small single board computers.

It all began in the 1990s when I worked as a student assistant in my university IT department. I didn t collect stamps or coins, I collected cables, mysterious adapters, and hard drives that clicked ominously but might still work. I d Frankenstein these parts together into creations best described as Franken-Seagate-RAID-esque, powered mostly by hope and zip ties. Despite my love of hardware chaos, I stayed loyal to software for a while.
