The idea started from a frustration I couldn't shake: cloud costs are one of the biggest line items for any engineering team, yet the first time most people find out about a costly infrastructure change is when the bill arrives. By then it's too late — the code is merged, the resources are running, and someone is having an uncomfortable conversation with finance. I kept thinking: we review code for bugs, for security, for performance. Why not for cost? So I built Zerobillbot — a GitHub and GitLab app that analyzes every pull request with infrastructure changes and posts a detailed cost breakdown before the merge. AWS, Azure, GCP. Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM. And if a PR would blow your budget threshold, it gets blocked. No more surprise bills. No more Monday morning fire drills.
