Do we charge annually upfront or monthly only?

Monthly is easier to sell lower commitment, lower risk, and people can leave whenever they want, which makes the "yes" much lighter. It's also a treadmill: revenue resets every month, churn hits immediately, and I'm constantly re-earning the same customers I already won.

Annual upfront is the opposite. One decision, twelve months of runway, cash in the bank, and a customer who's far less likely to churn because they've already paid. But it's a much bigger ask, it scares off the people who aren't sure yet, and it forces me to deliver a year of value before I've earned the trust to do it.

What shifted in your metrics priority after switching from free users to paid subscribers?

Focusing on signup momentum is fun but customer cancellations quickly shift your focus once revenue is involved.

A lot of cancellation reasons boil down to routine integration rather than minor feature requests. Fixing how a product fits into someone's workday is a much tougher challenge than just shipping another update.

Do experienced founders eventually get used to churn or do you just build faster ways to analyze and act on user cancellation reasons?
