does auto-generated test coverage actually give your team real confidence?

Relying on AI to write unit tests for edge cases felt like a massive productivity win at first. our total repository test coverage percentage jumped significantly within just a few weeks. but during our last deployment audit, we noticed several generated tests were asserting mock data against hardcoded values rather than validating real function outcomes.

how do you ensure that automated test suites are checking actual business logic instead of just inflating coverage metrics?

Why are most product reviews written in the first week. How to know what it’s like after a year?

I bought a pair of wireless earbuds a while back with 4.5 stars and thousands of reviews. Sound was great, battery was great, everyone loved them. Around month 8 the left bud started cutting out, and by month 10 it was dead. Warranty had ended two months earlier, of course...

When I went back to the reviews, I realized almost all of them were written within the first few days. Amazing sound! Love the case! Nobody comes back after 10 months to update their review, so the rating mostly tells you how the product feels out of the box, not whether it survives...

Now I scroll straight to the 1-star and 2-star reviews and sort by oldest or search for words like months later, stopped working, and after a year. That helps a bit, but it s a lot of effort for something I m just trying to buy.

It also feels like this applies to everything: backpacks where the zipper gives up, water bottles that start smelling weird, standing desks that begin wobbling. The stuff that matters most is exactly what a launch-week review can t tell you...

We spent 3 months building an AI feature our users never asked for. It killed our conversion.

Six months ago, our team got swept up in the AI hype. We decided to spend 12 weeks and a huge chunk of our runway building an automated AI assistant into our SaaS platform. We thought it would be the ultimate selling point and double our signups.

Last month, we launched it. The result?

  • Our signup-to-paid conversion rate actually dropped by 15%.

  • Only 8% of active users clicked on the AI feature in the first two weeks.

  • We got 4 support tickets from users saying the new UI was "cluttered" and confusing.

I finally talked to some of our long-time power users to figure out what went wrong. One of them said it perfectly: "I don't want an AI to write my reports for me. I just want you to fix the CSV export bug that I've reported three times."
