Are we building too fast to think critically?

I recently read a great article about how Linear approaches design and AI https://designerfund.substack.co..., and it got me thinking.

With AI making it so easy to turn ideas into working features, I wonder if we're sometimes skipping one of the most important parts of product building: questioning whether those features should exist at all.

I've definitely caught myself doing this. I'm building a travel app as a hobby, and sometimes I implement something simply because I want to see if it's possible. Then I realize it doesn't really solve anything and end up removing it.

Of course, experimenting is part of the fun, and building can be a way of learning too. But I really admire Linear's obsession with craft and thoughtful product decisions, and I wonder how we preserve that as building gets faster and faster.

Building products as a hobby. Anyone else?

Hey everyone! I m a product manager, and lately I ve been wondering whether building digital products could be a hobby in the same way that woodworking, photography, or pottery are. Not everything we make needs to become a startup or a side hustle, right? With all the tools available today, I wanted to see how far I could take an idea entirely on my own. So I started building Atlas, a travel app I wish existed. I m experimenting with AI, design, development, and all the little decisions that come with turning an idea into something real. I ve also started documenting the process on Substack, partly because I ve always loved writing and missed doing it: https://buildingatlas.substack.com I m here to discover what other people are making and exchange ideas along the way. Anyone else building something just for the joy of making it?
