Building products as a hobby. Anyone else?

by•
Hey everyone! I’m a product manager, and lately I’ve been wondering whether building digital products could be a hobby in the same way that woodworking, photography, or pottery are. Not everything we make needs to become a startup or a side hustle, right? With all the tools available today, I wanted to see how far I could take an idea entirely on my own. So I started building Atlas, a travel app I wish existed. I’m experimenting with AI, design, development, and all the little decisions that come with turning an idea into something real. I’ve also started documenting the process on Substack, partly because I’ve always loved writing and missed doing it: I’m here to discover what other people are making and exchange ideas along the way. Anyone else building something just for the joy of making it?

I would say it already is. I know people who are building digital products as a hobby

True! And I think AI tools are already making it so much more accessible. A bit like what happened with music, maybe we’ll start seeing a lot more indie makers building things just for the fun of it! Maybe we’ll start seeing a lot more “bands” in the digital product world too That’s actually part of what made me want to get more involved in the Product Hunt community, to see what everyone else is making :)
