💸 When is a product/maker ready to raise money?

At what point does a product become ready to talk to investors?

When you have users?
Revenue?
A clear business model?
A certain number of people using it?

Especially for solo or small-team makers, it feels twice as hard to reach all of these points alone - while continuing to build the product without income and bootstrapping everything.

Is it weird to feel guilty about upvoting tools you never actually try?

I started upvoting a lot of products that looked cool, but I realize I rarely open them past the landing page. It feels a bit odd, almost like I'm giving a full endorsement to software I've never tested.

To me, an upvote feels more like saying "this concept is neat" rather than "I personally vouch for this." But at the same time, I catch myself feeling a little guilty about giving a thumbs up and then instantly forgetting the app exists five minutes later. Realistically, nobody has time to download and test every single launch.

How do you approach this? Do you upvote freely on potential alone, or do you strictly save your votes for tools you have actually put to work? I am trying to figure out the general consensus so I am not throwing votes around blindly.

What breaks when your first enterprise customer arrives?

you're moving fast, you've shipped login, it works, users are in. and then an enterprise prospect shows up and the first thing they ask is 'do you support SSO?' and suddenly the thing you built in a weekend is blocking a six-figure deal.

but SSO is usually just the first question. after that comes the security questionnaire. then someone asks about audit logs. then their IT team wants to know how they'll provision and deprovision users at scale. then legal asks about data residency.
