My app runs inside another company's app marketplace, so before anyone can try it they have to create an account on a platform they've probably never heard of. My first Reddit posts got about 380 views between them, and the install count didn't move.
For those of you building plugins, GPTs, Shopify apps, or anything else that lives inside someone else's platform: what helped people get past that first step? A short demo video, a sample they can see without an account, something else?
I'm Joshua. I build ModlyAI, a tool that lets furniture shoppers upload a photo of their room with its measurements and see which pieces fit and where each one goes before they buy.
Lately I've been working on a consumer version called Nookflip. You upload a room photo, pick a style, and get a plan with real furniture sizes on a to-scale floor plan you can rearrange, then a render of the makeover on your own photo. It launches here on Tuesday.
I'm mostly here to learn from people who've launched consumer apps. What's one thing you wish you'd known before your first launch?
