Hi, I'm Joshua, I build tools that check if furniture fits

by•

I'm Joshua. I build ModlyAI, a tool that lets furniture shoppers upload a photo of their room with its measurements and see which pieces fit and where each one goes before they buy.

Lately I've been working on a consumer version called Nookflip. You upload a room photo, pick a style, and get a plan with real furniture sizes on a to-scale floor plan you can rearrange, then a render of the makeover on your own photo. It launches here on Tuesday.

I'm mostly here to learn from people who've launched consumer apps. What's one thing you wish you'd known before your first launch?

Welcome Joshua, and good luck on Tuesday! One thing from my consumer app that maps closely to yours, since both end in a generated result: measure whether people actually look at the result, not only whether it was made. My app generates a song, and the data showed 67 of 145 people who got one never pressed play. The generation worked every time, the reveal is where they were lost. Now the finished song starts playing by itself. For Nookflip I would watch the step from floor plan to makeover render: if the render is the moment that sells it, make sure nobody has to find a button to see it.

Welcome Joshua! I haven't launched here yet myself, but here's what I noticed after watching for a month: makers who'd been helping out in threads before launch day had people show up for them. Checking if a sofa fits before you buy it is a real problem. Good luck on Tuesday!
