MOZART MEETS AI

Listen up, AI’s about to drop a new album.

In today’s newsletter: recent developments in AI-generated music and what they might mean for artists.

RIP Tweetbot

Recently, Twitter banned third-party clients and effectively ended beloved products like Tweetbot in an instant. Fortunately, Twitterbot’s makers decided to pivot using their 10 years of experience building the award-winning product. Enter: Ivory, the new Mastodon client.

A round of apaws

Congratulations to all the winners, runners-up, and nominees in the 2022 Golden Kitty Awards. It's an honor to recognize and celebrate the amazing achievements of so many makers. Until next year!

What goes up…
Are big tech’s massive lay-offs an indicator of a recession or the result of pandemic-fuelled overhiring? Yes, Amazon just laid off 18,000, but they also doubled the size of their workforce between 2019 and 2022, while Apple only fattened up their headcount by 20%, which may explain why they’ve managed to avoid job cuts so far.
Not done with Wordle

Words still have power. Wordle might not be blowing up your feed anymore, but Merriam-Webster took a page out of The New York Times’ book and acquired Quordle.

Start your week off with four Wordles at once.

Last chance

Voting for The Golden Kitty Awards ends tonight at midnight PST, so this is your last chance to have a say in determining the best tech of 2022.

Support your favorite products with a vote! They’ll appreciate it, we promise.

Is big tech okay?

Twitter is trialing a new monetization model… selling people statues of its old logo for $100,000. Meanwhile, Microsoft and Amazon prepare to collectively cut 38,000 jobs. That leaves Apple the only member of the OG FAANG family as yet untouched by layoffs.

Flattery gets you acquired

Gas, the app that lets teens compliment each other, has been acquired by Discord.

Congrats to co-founder Nikita Bier. It's his second big acquisition in five years, having sold his first app to Facebook in 2017.

It’s go time

Golden Kitty voting time, to be precise.

Only four days left to vote for your top products from 2022: crown the best in AI, Data and Analytics, Design Tools, Developer Tools, E-Commerce, SaaS, and more.

The race is on 🏁

Time flies when you’re launching products.

It’s voting week for the Golden Kitty Awards, and we can’t wait to see who will take the trophies home this year.
