Group chats are now in ChatGPT. You can add friends, family, or coworkers to a shared conversation to collaborate, plan, and create together with AI. It's separate from your private chats.
ChatGPT has always been about empowering you. Now, with group chats, it's moving to link your real-world social relationships. What happens when our work and life connections are also enhanced by ChatGPT?
This is a big step. Your ChatGPT account was already your query ID, and (with recent features) your transaction ID. Now, it's becoming your social ID too.
It's only piloting in a few locations for now, but let's expect it to expand quickly, cuz this has the potential to become the world's largest AI-enhanced social network :)

Seems idea was inspired from WhatsApp group chats. But it will have a lot more business functionality.
Though i do have privacy concerns. Still gonna test it with a friend.
Now I can see the future of multiple agents chatting in the group chat with humans just staring at the screen

Love this direction. Most chat apps are busy limiting or outright banning AI accounts, which makes collaborating with AI super clunky — juggling browser tabs, screenshots, and copy-paste hacks.
If the existing messengers don’t want AI in the room, it actually makes sense for OpenAI to just build the room itself. A place where humans and multiple GPTs can share the same thread, keep context, and co-edit ideas feels much more natural than bolting a bot onto a legacy chat app.

For users who rely on the 'Projects' feature(with its dedicated files and custom instructions) for a single client or goal, will Group Chats eventually be allowed to tap into the Project's memory/context, rather than the User'spersonal memory?
Having the ability for a group to converse with an AI that's already trained on the Project's specific documents and goals would turn this from a great brainstorming tool into an unparalleled knowledge management hub. Upvoted!

Might try this with my low-code team for prompt refinement. How are others thinking to use this?

I’m excited about Group Chats for collaboration, but would still like clearer transparency and pricing as projects scale from pilots to production
