Contra - A new kind of professional network

I've been watching Contra for the past few months, and they have really done a fantastic job of creating a network that focuses on actually collaborating with other people. Definitely excited to see how they continue to grow their online community!

I remember the exact moment brainstorming names for this “passion project” that @ben_huffman was working on. After many lists and late nights tossing around names, we thought of Contra. There wasn’t much to it except that it just felt SO right 💡. The concept of Contra resonated with my personal journey. I began modelling at the age of 15, quickly learning what it meant to work for myself, having the flexibility to shape my work around my life and having financial freedom. Working independently made me realized I never wanted go down the traditional path of a 9-5. The thought of putting together a resume terrified me. I had all this life experience, traveling the world, handling clients, contracts, taxes (in multiple countries), expenses etc. but none of this work could be displayed in the form of a CV. I began in the NYC startup world with a recently acquired company, on the founding team as their CPO. It was there that I realized your experiences, the contributions you make and the people you know are the actual things that actually matter. At the beginning of 2020 I realized, there has never been a more important time to provide people with the ability to access flexible work opportunities and the tools to manage those opportunities successfully. Resulting in people having the confidence to go independent and leveling the playing field for everyone around the world! I packed my stuff and moved to SF, where I have spent the last year building Contra! Here we are on launch day 🎉 It is the most rewarding feeling to work on something that is changing the world with the most incredible team of people that truly want to build something incredible for the independent community!

Super excited to see this go live. Freelancers - like myself- are often hit by % fees on platforms, which cuts into our hard earned $$$. This is a welcome addition and the community is so friendly and supportive.

I am watching Contra for the last one and a half years; I must admit you guys are committed. Honestly; I even feel jealous when I see your your focus. I think it will be much more bigger when Web 3.0 arrived. Will quote this tweet 5 years

there's this huge barrier to entry that you need to put 4 collaborators to even make your profile submittable for approval

Interesting project. If I wanted to use Contra to manage and publish many side projects I work on (that don't justify a LinkedIn entry), is that a relevant use case?
