Dyad - Free, local, open-source alternative to Lovable / v0 / Bolt

by
Dyad is a free, local, open-source vibe coding tool. It's an alternative to v0, Lovable, and Bolt, but without the lock-in or limitations - you can use any AI model (including free Gemini & OpenRouter ones)! Download it for free: runs on Windows and Mac

This looks powerful. Any chance do you plan to ship something for non-technical builders?

Will Chen

@5harath great question - so most Dyad users are not engineers or developers! If you can chat with AI, you build with Dyad!

I recently started using a new coding tool called Dyad, and I just had to share my experience! It launched on Product Hunt, and it’s been a game-changer for me, I built my app with Dyad here.

Firstly, it’s completely free and runs locally on my machine, which is a huge plus for anyone concerned about data privacy or simply wanting to keep things simple. What I love most is that it lets you use any AI model you want, even the free ones—plug in your API and you’re good to go.

Using Dyad has saved me so much time and effort in my development work. It feels like I can focus more on what I want to create instead of getting bogged down by setup or limitations. Whether you’re a seasoned developer or just starting, I think it’s worth checking out. It’s surprisingly straightforward and makes the coding process much smoother. Give it a try if you’re looking to level up your coding adventure!

Nice! @wwwillchen , do we need a beastly graphic card on our local machine for this to run good?

Will Chen

@qaunainm only if you want to run local models! you can also connect to cloud models (which most users do)

Qaunain Meghjee

@wwwillchen amazing I'll definitely try it out soon with cloud models. Another random question, have you ever thought of making an integration with Firebase, i.e. one that Dyad can code into, just like most the Ai coder tools have with Supabase (I saw you also have one with Supabase).

Reason: Supabase has a $25/month fee if you have more than 2 projects, but with tools like yours, they allow you to create many MVPs (and full-blown software) rapidly, so we can max out the Supabase free tier in a few hours.

I’ve been using Dyad for nearly two months now, and it’s quickly become one of the most valuable tools in my creative and entrepreneurial toolkit. It’s refreshing to work with something that’s not only free and open-source, but also thoughtfully designed to remove friction. The experience feels natural and flexible, which has allowed me to experiment more freely and uncover a few promising directions for new business opportunities.

Special shoutout to @wwwillchen for building something genuinely useful and fostering a great community. Looking forward to seeing how Dyad continues to evolve.

@aaron_buhagiar1 thank you for the feedback and being an early supporter of Dyad!

🛠️🧠 Local + open source + no lock-in? Dyad’s ticking all the right boxes ✅🔥

Very cool! Will give this a spin for sure.

how much Diad can handle complex apps ? Where Lovable (as an exemple) struggle and tends to duplicate functions and code making it a nightmare to maintain and improve.
Will Chen

@jeremy_maisse great question. This is definitely a challenge with AI coding and Dyad handles this by sending by default the entire codebase as context to avoid having the AI duplicate code, etc. With Dyad Pro, there's a Smart Context mode which automatically finds the most relevant files to optimize token usage and still avoid this issue where duplicate code is being generated.

This is exactly what the indie dev and open-source community needed — a free, local-first, no-lock-in alternative to all the flashy “AI builder” tools out there. Love that Dyad gives full control over model choice (Gemini, OpenRouter, etc.) and actually respects user ownership.

Running locally with zero limits? That’s a breath of fresh air in a sea of gated platforms and paid APIs. Big props for building in public and focusing on freedom, flexibility, and real utility.

Congrats on the launch — stoked to see where Dyad goes next!

Great! Looks like this is going to help a lot of small businesses and non-coders out there!
