Why would they launch this without a desktop version available?

Craiglist is dead. Long live Craiglist.

I think @sarthakgh has it right. The playbook of FB is launch, grow and charge $$$. Nothing wrong with making money (even if it is excessive) but not too keen on my social domain meshing with a commercial domain.

When will it show up on my Facebook app?

I know they've tried this once before but this seems like it's been executed properly.

People have been calling FB Marketplace a Craigslist killer for years, but there are just certain things people rely on Craigslist for that they wouldn't want to attach their real names to...

Always looking for different resources when I have to sell items that I do not use any more. Will definitely check this out and see how it works.

After working on a Craiglist competitor (classifieds marketplace) for 4-5 years, we ended up pivoting away from Craigslist as our key integration to Facebook. We ended up pulling in all the local FB Buy and Selling groups' listings and displaying on our site with search, alerts, filters, etc. Eventually the idea was shelved because Facebook seems perfectly poised to take advantage of this opportunity. Every marketplace idea has to beat the chicken-egg buyer-seller challenge, and Facebook already has that solved. Their only issue is getting the tools and UI right, and it's remarkable they haven't had more success yet.

I've a question. Can a business survive solely on Facebook Marketplace & without a website of their own?
