App or game progress to count for something in real life?
by•
Hey guys I’ve been thinking about how much time we spend on games and apps. Leveling up or unlocking achievements. Usually this progress just stays locked inside that app.
Like what if progress in one app could actually mean something outside of it. Maybe recognition across different platforms or even rewards in real life.
Do you feel like it would actually be more motivating if progress counted for something beyond each app?

Love the concept with one caveat. It makes a ton of sense within related ecosystems where progress maps to the same skill or behavior. In those cases, carrying over streaks, verified skills, or "hours practiced" could feel fair and motivating. But across totally different apps, the signal gets noisy - being level 50 in a puzzle game shouldn’t unlock anything in my tax software.

@elenat That’s a great point! Like having had progress in a running app, should maintain (instead of starting over) progress at another let's say fitness app. This including the verifications + hours. (Also applicable to other ecosystems would be great to know about them). How about rewards in real life?
If the app is focused on personal development, that’s a good approach to motivate people. For example, reading 15 self-development books could earn a discount on a course, or something along those lines.
