Do you think that AI-generated comments make communities like Product Hunt a better place?

Voted no. In all candour, AI dampens the 'people' element in connecting, well, people – and then connecting those people with (meaningful) products and services. For that, the whole idea puts me off or, to say, even scares me a little. I like the idea of another person like me on the other side of an exchange; thoughts going from mind to keyboard, then screen. It's all just talking into a shapeless void with AI, all-knowing or not. Why automate something that makes us unique as a species?

This whole issue for me raises the question as to how can we maintain responsible and ethical AI principles. ChatGPT has built in ethical boundaries to what it will do and recognises what it shouldn't be used for (such as replacing human interaction). But I highly suspect future AI technology and uses of it will creep over these boundaries. And so I think it's important that these principles are taken seriously and that as an AI community and innovators, everyone holds each other to account to these - to ensure that it makes the world a better place, rather than undermine our humanity. But also the users of it have a responsibility to use it ethically, as given the power of AI - we are going to be in a very real danger of creating an online world in which everyone will be constantly unsure as to whether they are communicating with a person or a bot. I think we can all agree this is not a world we want. Ultimately, I think we need to recognise that with great power comes great responsibility.

For me this is independent from using AI or not, it depends if the comment provides value. If somebody is adding a generic comment without value, it add little to the discussions. I have similar feelings about "generate me a response for this thread" kind of prompts. If somebody is using AI to help them express their thoughts, then I'm fine with it (e.g. draft me a comment highlighting point A,B,C). Especially for non-native speakers it can be a big benefit.

I'd 100% use a browser extension to flag GPT created content in forums, etc

My desire is to engage with a community that consists of genuine individuals who are actively using their accounts. If I were interested in having meaningless conversations with automated bots, I would have sought out other avenues. The primary objective of this community is to exchange feedback, share genuine experiences, learn from others, and not merely to promote one's own products. Whatever you ask for.... ChatGPT will answer ..... But surely it will lack those some precious personal experiences in ur life that no one else could share better than you.... I always find producthunt community discussion realistic it feels livelihood.... sharing their learning make our lives easier .....

I think we expect real answers from real people. Generated comments can sometimes be really useful, but there is no need to use them as often as we see. We expect personal answers based on personal experience, not answers that just look good.

The very notion of the discussion is the human touch to it. AI can never replace it.. however I think tweaking the message with the help AI like grammar or spelling mistake is ok. But the human thinking is the key part behind any discussion

Founders come here for authentic views - what people really think and feel about your product. Suggestions/feedback/criticism :) ChatGPT generated responses are verbose & of less use to community. But if this tool gives some people voice who would otherwise be silent, then let it be. But I definitely want to hear real thoughts :)
