Do you think that AI-generated comments make communities like Product Hunt a better place?

I think they generated very generic comments. They lack a sense of context or personality to it. So the content itself is not adding value as such.

Quite the debate! Maybe AI could and should be used for translation, or if someone is unable to converse in a easy way – it could be used to make the conversation more accessible. However I feel like general human-to-human conversation is quite valuable.

As a non-native English speaker I can easily say that AI has made things easier for me but I don't use it for generating comments (although I don't mind if people do). I do use it to fix my grammatical errors so that there won't be any lack of communication, which is great! I love the AI era :)

It's like using a prepared solution instead of thinking of it by yourself. Hope there will be an auto-check of how humanized published comments.

Short answer: No. Longer answer: A community is about people. If people instead of communicating with each other within a community delegate this essential activity to machines with generic personality then the community ultimately suffers from a lack of authenticity. I'm excited about what we're now able to do with AI but it should not be at the expense of people forgetting to be their true authentic selves online. Life gets boring if you let machines drive all your interactions with people.

The flavor and essence of the post gets lost somewhat.

So interesting discussion! While AI can be a useful tool for assisting the community, I think that relying on automation to reply too much can cause us to miss out on important or subtle information that can only be picked up through genuine communication and interaction with others. Then? we can doubt the meaning of community itself...
