We've seen a lot of growth in AI comment generators lately – auto-creating comments and replies based on available info. Do you think apps like these are positive or detrimental to community-focused platforms like Product Hunt?
Fwiw, we're aware that many folks are already choosing to use these kinds of services on Product Hunt. We're actively working on ways to address it, but I'm curious how our community feels about this type of engagement.

On some forums, like Quora or Stackoverflow it might be a good idea to use AI, since people want answers to their questions and they don't care about who gives the answer.
But on other platforms, where networking and making new connections is important, AI can easily spoil the user experience.

i think it defeats the purpose of having a comment section to begin with. The process of compressing your ideas into a few concise sentences is a skill that needs training, and that requires repetition. Not only does auto-generating comments defeat the idea of sharing ideas, it strips you of be opportunity to improve your own writing ability. a lose-lose situation to me
I think AI generated comments isn’t a bad thing (even tho i dont use it) you can make it sound more human by just saying “say that again with a little more humour”
You can add the at the end of everything and works everytime. Sometimes they add a little TOO much humour so you may have to make tweeks😅
Why would I want to read a fake opinion that sounds like a real one?

Without AI, most comments (IMHO) are really devoid of substance. With AI comments being pervasive, I would feel a disconnect from other people.
I guess the ideal situation is AI being used to correct bad English for example, or to source facts and figures to enhance their comments.
It's a tricky thing really. The first principle of this is, people really enjoy interacting with other people, even if the substance of those interactions falls flat at times.

Depends. If I want to share and get knowledge, its fine. If I need to get/share wisdom, I need a real one
I wanna hear people's thoughts and opinions. But I get that not everyone's confident in their English, so they might use ChatGPT to help them express themselves better. IMO that's okay, as long as they're still saying what they really mean. But if they're just letting ChatGPT do all the work and not adding their own flavor to it, then it's like, what's the point of having a community at all?
